The Silverstone weather may have done its best to dampen spirits for the first round of the FIA GT3 race series, yet there was no stopping Ascari and the Damax race team. A podium place in race one for Aaron Scott and Ben Collins was matched by another solid performance in race two, with Luca Pirri and Stuart Turvey crossing the line in fourth.

Competing against more established rivals such as Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini, the five series GT3 European Championship offered the Ascari KZ1R and Damax the ideal platform on which to cut their racing teeth.

Starting from the pit lane with slick tyres on a wet track, the beginning of race one was a tricky affair for car 45 and Aaron Scott. But after the driver change half way through, former British Formula 3 Driver, Ben Collins, put on a real show, climbing 10 positions in fifteen minutes to clinch 3rd on the final lap.  Aaron Scott said, "We started from the pit lane opting for slicks as we thought it was our only chance to make up the disadvantage of a pit-lane start. It was really more suitable for wet tyres, but the gamble certainly paid off."

Ben Collins added, "Our car only arrived two days ago so it is a huge surprise for us to finish in such a good position. Damax did a great job and the potential of the Ascari is huge. It is pretty good to start from the pits and to finish on the podium.”

For race number two, it was the turn of Luca Piri and Stuart Turvey in car 47 to shine.  Guaranteeing Ascari’s place on the manufacturers’ podium for the second time, Piri and Turvey put in an impressive performance to finish fourth.  With two months to go before the second round of the FIA GT3 series in Germany, the Damax team is confident that this weekend’s performance was no fluke. "We are very happy with our performance, the potential of the car is great, and we will be able to have better results in the future," said Luca Pirri.

The Silverstone event also allowed Gigawave, the official sponsor of the Damax team, to showcase its new in-car camera equipment, offering spectators a behind the wheel vantage point as the action on the circuit unfolds.
