CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME

NEWS RELEASE

It's an old adage but true: "Charity Begins at Home." Charity for the BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Car community begins on Saturday 5 June, 2010, when the annual British Stock Car Drivers' (BSCDA) Trust Fund Race takes place at the stadium it has made its home - the Rugby Road shaleway, Coventry International Motor Speedway - aka The Brandon Bowl.

The BSCDA Trust Fund looks after drivers who have sustained racing injuries and relies heavily on voluntary contributions, which come by the bucket, or perhaps more accurately helmet-load from generous stock car racing fans.

As is the norm, on Saturday 5 June, the pick of the crop of F1 racers will compete in a special race for the Trust Fund Trophy and fans will show their appreciation by giving their pennies and pounds to the popular drivers, who leave their cars in the pits while they go out among the crowd, collecting for this worthy cause.

Rothwell-based driver Murray Harrison is defending the trophy race and may have to look to his laurels; the Trust Fund Race is for the elite of the sport - the Stars and Superstar drivers who have earned their place on the grid at Coventry by being top point scorers in the National Points Table.

As we go to press, 21 drivers will grid for the BSCDA Trust Fund Race, including established stars such as World Champion Andrew Smith, National Points Champion Stuart Smith, Frankie Wainman Junior and John Lund. Eligible to race are newly-appointed stars and superstars Richard Wilson, Iain Holden, Luke Davidson, Lee Dimmick and Lee Fairhurst. Will they hold their own, fighting off challenges from the likes of Paul Harrison and Mark Gilbank? The only way to find out is to be there on the night.

This season - probably more than any other in recent times - the Trust Fund needs stock car racing supporters to be generous in their giving; the Fund is suffering, as we all are, from the economic downturn and the reduction in interest paid on investment accounts. A penny more each from 1,000 people makes another £100. Donations to the Fund can also be made to The Secretary, The BSCDA. PO Box 662, Halifax HX3 OW2.

This same meeting is also a World of Shale qualifying round for BriSCA Formula 2 drivers, who have supported Coventry Stadium in good numbers since the start of the season. To witness these smaller relations of the oval racing family coming out of the bends three abreast lap after lap is a spectacle not to be missed on this, all-too-rare occasion when they appear with the F1s at Coventry.

Meeting start time: 7:00pm.
