MG TROPHY - NEXT STEP FOR YOUNG TALENT
Jack Goff turns 18 in March and this year he’s celebrating with an open track day at Silverstone before he makes his debut in the 2009 MG Trophy.
Jack Goff Motorsport will be competing in the championship with Jack set to become one of the youngest drivers on the grid. Goff, from Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire, will be racing a black and yellow MG ZR 190 that belonged to former champion Paul Wallace.
This is the first time the family-run team has competed in the MG Trophy, one of the UK's most competitive single make club championships. Jack Goff will be wearing number 33 on the MG ZR 190 and he has recently been testing the car at Snetterton and Oulton Park in preparation for the start of the series on 4 April at Donnington Park.
Before the final preparations for the championship, Jack Goff will be hosting an open track day at Silverstone on Saturday 7 February for sponsors and guests – a day that will include laps of the track with Jack in the MG ZR. This will be Jack Goff’s first opportunity to meet his current and prospective sponsors, one of the many new experiences for this talented teenager.
“I’m very excited about this year’s championship and having my family running the team has given me a great deal of confidence. I know it will be very competitive and I’m realistic about what we can do, but we have had plenty of testing in the past few months and we will be very well prepared. Testing has gone well and although it was cold at Snetterton and difficult to get any heat into the rear tyres, we were getting lap times of 1 min 21sec and that was on used tyres. I was pleased with that and that form continued with our recent testing at Oulton Park.”
The teenager, who has progressed up through the karting ranks and has won numerous awards, is excited by the progression to saloon cars and believes his short career so far will help him in the next 12 months.
“I left school at 16 and went to the National College for Motorsport at Silverstone and then worked for six months for the BMW Dealer Team with Matt Jackson. I appreciate I’m only 17 and have a lot to learn, but I hope my background and experience so far will give me a real boost this year. I’ve been racing in karts since I was six and this year the support from sponsors and friends will really pay off. When people believe in you and help you, you have to work really hard to make those efforts pay off. I have great faith in my ability and I know this will be a learning year, but that won‘t stop me from concentrating on the job and proving we are a competitive team.”
