Mitchell Gilbert completes two days Formula Renault testing
Mitchell Gilbert has kicked off preparations for his 2011 Formula Renault campaign with two days testing in the UK. Mitchell spent a day completing laps at Northamptonshire's Rockingham circuit on Wednesday 11 August, before heading to Leicestershire's Donington Park Circuit on Wednesday 18 August, to become the first Formula Renault driver to test on the recently upgraded national circuit.
Mitchell showed great consistency and pace during the two days of testing, setting lap times close to those seen in the current Formula Renault championship. Following such succesful testing, Mitchell will now compete in the Formula Renault UK Winter Series, racing in six rounds during the first two weeks of November. Rounds one and two will take place at Snetterton with the following four rounds, two double-headers, taking place at Pembrey, giving Mitchell his first taste of formula racing and some valuable experience before making his step up to the main series in 2011. By completing these six races, Mitchell will gain the signatures required to upgrade his licence enabling him to participate in the UK national Formula Renault Series next season.
Mitchell Gilbert said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my two days of Formula Renault testing, it was great to get in the car, push it to its limits and see how quick i could really go. I am pleased with my performance over the two days and am quicker than i expected to be at this stage of my preparations. The fitness training is really paying off and I'm feeling in great shape. My aim for the winter series is to finish within the top five, which i think is an achievable goal."
Mitchell will continue to work hone his skills over the coming months in preparation for his assault on the 2011 Formula Renault Series next year.
