Guild of Motoring Writers news release

The Guild of Motoring Writers honoured Nick Tandy as its Driver of the Year in 2010 - and the highly talented racer received his winner's tankard from Chairman Charlotte Blight at Silverstone during the British Grand Prix meeting.

Nick, who had been unable to collect his award in December because the Guild dinner clashed with the Porsche Supercup series presentations in Monaco, joined Guild members at Damon Hill's BRDC barbecue fresh from the final practice session for this year's British Supercup race.

The Guild of Motoring Writers Chairman Charlotte Blight presents the Driver of the Year cup to Nick Tandy at the BRDC Club House, Silverstone.Clearly delighted at receiving the award, Nick said he was very grateful to the Guild for selecting him and promised that the engraved pewter tankard would take pride of place in his growing collection. "I am honoured," he said, "and will do my best to justify your faith in me."

Charlotte added: "The previous winner, Oliver Turvey, has already demonstrated why he was one to watch, and I strongly believe Nick also has a great future in motorsport. We'll continue to follow his progress, as we do Oliver's."

Nick, who finished runner-up in the prestigious Porsche Supercup series last year, revealed that his ultimate ambition is to race and win at Le Mans. He is hopeful that he could be involved in the new Porsche LMP team which is being put together to contest next year's 24 Hours.

The Driver of the Year is selected by a panel comprising motorsport experts within the Guild. The winner is judged to be the driver who has shown the most potential during the season. There is also a Rider of the Year, selected using the same criteria.
