News Release

Aspiring motoring writers are invited to enter the prestigious Sir William Lyons Award. The winner will receive a £2000 prize - courtesy of award sponsor Jaguar, whose founder the award is named after - a handcrafted trophy, Guild associate membership and widespread industry recognition. They can then hopefully use this as a launch pad to a glittering career in the automotive media.

The Guild of Motoring Writers - the UK's foremost association of professional automotive journalists and photographers - has presented the Sir Williams Lyons Award to budding young motoring writers annually since 1966. The award is open to non-Guild members, and past winners who went on to become influential journalists within the industry include Angus Frazer, Tom Barnard, Tim Pollard, Alistair Weaver, Tim Watson and Richard Aucock.

Guild chairman Charlotte Blight comments: "Winning this award can give you the edge in a highly competitive industry. It's an outstanding way to showcase your talents."

Entrants, who at the entry closing date of 1 October 2011 must be aged 17-23, hold or be eligible for a UK passport and be resident in the UK, must complete a two-part assignment. Part one consists of a 500-word piece, and part two a 1,000-word article, both on a set choice of subjects. For more information and an entry form, please see The Guild of Motoring Writers website at www.gomw.co.uk or email Guild General Secretary Pat Lodge on generalsec@gomw.co.uk.
