Lisowski wins season opener
Mateusz Lisowski claimed victory at the first race of the 2011 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup. The young Pole triumphed in his first season in the world’s most eco-conscious one-make cup at the Hockenheimring. He finished just in front of 19-year-old Daniel Lloyd from the UK who had qualified in pole position on his debut outing. The 1993 DTM champion, Nicola Larini, claimed the final podium position.
Behind Aditya Patel from India, Uwe Alzen finished fifth, ahead of the other Legends drivers – Johnny Cecotto (11), Klaus Niedzwiedz (15) and 1986 DTM champion Kurt Thiim (16).

Endurance Championship Nürburgring
Golf24 makes successful racing debut
In preparation for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring next month, the spectacular Golf24 made its racing debut on Saturday.
At the second round of the Endurance Championship Peter Terting, Fredrik Ekblom and Franck Mailleux took turns at the wheel of the 440-hp four-wheel drive racer and finished the race in the top ten of the high-calibre field of more than 200 vehicles – despite a puncture which cost a lot of time.
Volkswagen Motorsport will continue its testing programme on the Nordschleife this week.
Formula 3 Euro Series
Five podium places for Volkswagen drivers at Hockenheim
With five top three finishes, Volkswagen Motorsport had a successful Hockenheim weekend in the Formula 3 Euro Series. The major winner was German driver Marco Wittmann who achieved podium places at all three races: second, third and second.
In addition, the Belgian Laurens Vanthoor took third place at the first race, the Columbian Carlos Muñoz, who like his brand colleagues drives a Dallara Volkswagen, occupied second place at the second race.
FIA Formula 3 International Trophy
Two third places – Daniel Abt is in contention in the contest of the world’s elite
The world debut of the FIA Formula 3 International Trophy was a resounding success for the young Volkswagen racer Daniel Abt. At the Trophy’s inaugural round, the talented 18-year old finished both races in third place. Laurens Vanthoor (B), who was also on the grid ‘powered by Volkswagen’, was the runner-up at the first race.
The new F3 Trophy that was announced by the FIA encompasses a total of six race weekends. The next one will take place at Pau, France, from 20 to 22 May.
Polo Cup South Africa
Exploits for Devin Robertson and Lee Thompson
On the third race weekend of the Polo Cup South Africa at the Scribante Raceway near Port Elisabeth, Devin Robertson and Lee Thompson each celebrated a race win.
In the aggregate of both races, victory of the day went to the 18-year-old Robertson in front of Lee Thompson and Kosie Weyers, who clinched second and sixth places in the field of the 25 Volkswagen Polo cars.
Formula Volkswagen South Africa
Robert Wolk celebrates two victories at Port Elisabeth
Both victories at the third round of the Formula Volkswagen South Africa at Port Elisabeth went to Robert Wolk. Jayde Kruger finished both races as runner-up.
Wolk and Kruger were the dominant duo of the day: The two South Africans were the only drivers in the field to lap the 2.5-kilometre Scribante Raceway in less than one minute. Third place in the classification of the day went to Simon Moss, who finished both races in third place.
