Barons’ Jaguar Heritage sale, April 19th, 2011

Entries are now open for Barons’ annual Jaguar Heritage Sale at Sandown Park (April 19th, 2011), which this year marks the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic cars of all time, the E-type.

Barons’ annual Jaguar Heritage event is always popular with buyers and vendors alike, and is the perfect place to find that special ‘big cat’ or to consign one to new ownership.

Early entries for the sale include an immaculate, concours-condition 1948 3.5-litre drophead coupé (estimate £95,000-£125,000) and a stunning1960 MKIX 6.0 Saloon which has been rebuilt at a cost of over £85,000 (£50,000 – £60,000).

One of the beauties of the Jaguar marque is that there are always very good examples to be found for those with slightly smaller budgets as well, such as the 1963 MKX (£8,000-£10,000) and 1958 MKIX auto (£12,000 – £14,000) already consigned.

Barons’ Jaguar Heritage sale“Jaguars are hugely popular both in the UK and internationally, and I can think of few other makes of car which inspire such widespread enthusiasm and passion,” said Barons’ MD Laurence Sayers-Gillan.

“We are hoping for a really good turn-out of Jaguars including, of course, some fine examples of the ‘birthday girl’ herself, the E-type.”

Barons has a strong affinity with the Jaguar marque, and its directors are steeped in Jaguar history. Consequently it attracts more Jaguars than other UK auction, and has achieved some outstanding results in recent years. 2009 saw Barons achieve £70,000 for a S3 E-type Roadster, £30,000 for a S2 E-Type FHC, £60,000 for a 1947 3.5 Saloon and £32,000 for a 3.8 MKII Saloon, while Jaguars sold in Barons’ saleroom in 2010 included an SS1 Tourer (£78,000), an S3 E-type Roadster (£67,000), an S1 E-type FHC (£53,000) and a 3.5 Saloon (£45,800).

A specialist dealer in classic Jaguars in the 1980s and ‘90s, Laurence Sayers-Gillan also used to own and run a Jaguar racing team, campaigning a 550bhp V12 S3 Saloon in the AMOC Inter Marque Championship and other national race series. In addition, he was a founder member of the Jaguar Car Club and served on the Jaguar Drivers’ Club competition committee. And another Barons’ director, Tony Cavell, was a well-known MKII racer and Jaguar racecar preparation specialist, with a string of successes behind him, both behind the wheel and as a race engineer.
